

Six-Week Post-Partum Follow Up Visit for Gestational Diabetes
Length: 2 hours
Following delivery, 5% to 10% of women with gestational diabetes develop Type 2 Diabetes. Women who have had a history of gestational diabetes have a 40% to 60% chance of developing diabetes in the next 5-10 years. With these statistics, it is important for you to be evaluated and to learn preventative measures to reduce your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
Six weeks after the delivery of your baby during your follow-up appointment, a clinician will review and adjust your meal plan, help you recognize early symptoms of diabetes and safe and proper methods to maintain a healthy weight. This visit includes a two-hour, fasting, 75 gram blood glucose tolerance test.
Six-Week Post-Partum Follow Up Visit for Pre-Existing Diabetes
Length: 1 hour
This visit includes an A1c six weeks after delivery. A clinician will meet with the patient to review and adjust the patient’s meal plan. The patient will be instructed on self-management for diabetes and review safe and proper methods to maintain a healthy weight. Pre-conception may also be addressed at this visit.
